Survivor IO is a roguelike survival game in which the character releases attacks automatically, so all players have to do is navigate the character to avoid the attacks from enemies. While the game has very simple controls, it takes some time and skills to survive against the ever-increasing horde of enemies. Do you have what it takes to defeat the final boss of every chapter in Survivor IO?
How To Play
Basic Gameplay
The basic premise of the game is for the character to survive for as long as possible. To do this, players need to move the character around to avoid the relentless pursuit of the zombies. Fortunately, the character attacks automatically with the skills players have acquired by leveling up and opening chests. With each foe that falls, it leaves behind a gem, which the character needs to collect in order to gain experience points (EXP). However, as players continue to play, the enemies get stronger and appear more frequently, making it extremely hard to survive.
There are many chapters in this game, each of which has a specific time limit. The main goal is for the character to survive until this time limit runs out, at which moment the final boss will appear. Defeating this boss will complete the chapter and award players with an EXP bonus. However, the more common scenario is that players fail to survive until the end of the time limit. The game ends once the enemies manage to sap away all the character's health, and players will receive all the EXP and gold they have collected.
Skills
In Survivor IO, “skills” refers to power-ups the character gets during a game session, which will disappear once a new session begins. To gain them, the character needs to accumulate enough experience points in order to level up or find chests. While there are many skills to choose from, players can only pick a limited number of different skills and continue upgrading them for better offense and passive buffs.
There are three main types of skills:
- Active skills: These are skills that can deal damage to enemies. The character can have a maximum of five Active skills during a session.
- Passive skills: These are skills that give extra benefits to the character, such as an increased health bar or a bigger range for all Active skills. The character can have a maximum of six Passive skills during a session.
- Evolutions: Once an Active skill has reached its maximum level, with the right Passive skill available, it can evolve into a much stronger skill!
Gear
One special feature that makes this game stand out from other roguelite games is the gear system. As players continue playing and complete different challenges, they will be rewarded with gear of different types and rarities. The higher the rarity, the better the gear. These gears can be equipped by the characters to provide them with useful Passive skills that can greatly enhance their battle prowess. In addition, it is possible to upgrade the desired gear as long as players have enough gold and the right design.
Characters
Survivor IO introduces four different characters, each of which has a different skill exclusive to them and additional level-up benefits:
Common
Common (yes, that’s really his name) is the starter character of Survivor IO. He is just a normal person who happens to be in a lot of unfortunate situations. His exclusive skill is Pointless, which adds 3% damage to all Active skills.
Catnips
Catnips used to be a human researcher until an unexpected experiment turned him into a cat! He is currently a field medic who fights against the zombies on the front line. With Medi-drone, his exclusive skill, Catnips can release a healing zone during the battle.
Tsukiyomi
Tsukiyomi is a cute girl who prefers self-company more than anything. Tsukiyomi is strong enough to go anywhere she wants without worrying about zombie attacks, thanks to her exceptional sword skills! Her exclusive skill is Moonshade Slash, which releases a powerful slash in front of her during the battle.
Wesson
Wesson is a hardened commander of the 5th Survivor Squad who is best described as “a man of occasional words”. His exclusive skill is EM Grenade, which is thrown automatically at enemies while engaging in a battle.

Tips and Tricks
- Pick up legs of ham to replenish your health: As you play Survivor IO, it is inevitable that the character will collide with enemies and lose some health. Fortunately, there are legs of ham that will refill the health bar scattered across the map. To find them, try to break all the boxes and objects you come across, since there is a high chance that a tasty leg of ham is waiting for you!
- Keep your eyes peeled for additional power-ups: In addition to the legs of ham, players can also come across one-time power-ups hidden inside the breakable objects. This includes the Magnet, which attracts all the EXP gems in the map to the character. Another useful power-up is the Bomb, which can get rid of every single enemy on the screen!
- Prioritize staying alive first: Sure, it can be tempting to rush recklessly to a bunch of EXP gems just across the wave of enemies, but this can make your character cornered and run out of health quickly. Unfortunately, it is not very easy to replenish the health bar, so your first priority is not to sustain any unnecessary damage. Don’t forget that you can pick up the gems once the area is not crowded with enemies!
- Plan which skills to choose: Since the character can only pick a limited number of skills, you may want to think beforehand about which skill is most suitable. For example, if the chosen character does not have the best health, one option is to pick health-increasing skills or damaging forcefields. If you plan to achieve a certain Evolution later in the session, don’t forget to leave a blank slot for the required Active and Passive skills!
